Date Difference
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about date calculations
How are working days calculated?
Working days count only the days from Monday to Friday within the interval, excluding Saturday and Sunday. Note that the calculation does NOT exclude national or local holidays, which vary from country to country: if you need them, manually subtract the holidays in the period.
Does the calculation account for leap years?
Yes. The total days count is based on real calendar dates, so February 29 of leap years is correctly included. The breakdown into years, months and days also respects the actual length of each month.
What is the "add / subtract days" mode for?
This mode lets you start from a date and add or subtract a number of days to get the resulting date, including the day of the week. It is useful for calculating contract deadlines, delivery terms, billing dates or X-day reminders.
How are working days between two dates counted?
Working days count only the days from Monday to Friday inside the range, leaving out Saturday and Sunday. National and local holidays are not removed, so they have to be subtracted separately when they matter.
Does the calculation allow for leap years?
Yes. The count is based on real calendar dates, so 29 February in leap years is included. The breakdown into years, months and days also respects the actual length of each month.
How do I work out a deadline a number of days away?
With the add or subtract days mode you start from a date, give the number of days and get the resulting date with its day of the week, which is handy for delivery terms and contract deadlines.
