Fake Data Generator
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about test data
What are the generated fake data for?
They are used to populate development databases, test forms and imports, create mockups and demos, run stress tests or documentation examples without using real people's data. They are ideal when you need a plausible but fake dataset, avoiding privacy issues from using real personal data.
Are the generated tax codes and VAT numbers valid?
No. The generated tax code and VAT number only have the correct format (length and character types) but are not mathematically valid nor do they correspond to real people or companies. They are only for tests where the field structure matters, not official validation with the check algorithm.
Is there a limit to the number of rows?
You can generate up to 1000 rows at a time. Everything happens in the browser, so there are no server calls and the data never leaves your device. For very large datasets it is best to export to CSV or JSON immediately and generate in batches.
What is fake data for?
For filling a development database, testing a form or an import, and preparing demos and documentation without using the real data of real people, so without any privacy question.
Are the tax codes and VAT numbers generated valid?
No, they only have the right shape for length and type of characters: they fail the check digit test and match nobody. Use them where what matters is the shape of the field.
How many rows can be generated at once?
Up to a thousand at a time, generated in the browser with no call to a server. For a bigger dataset it is better to export to CSV or JSON straight away and generate in further blocks.
