Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Pomodoro technique

What is the Pomodoro technique?

The Pomodoro technique is a time management method created by Francesco Cirillo. It involves working in focused 25-minute intervals (the "pomodoros"), separated by 5-minute short breaks. Every 4 pomodoros you take a longer 15-30 minute break. It helps maintain focus and reduce mental fatigue.

Can I customize the session durations?

Yes, you can freely set the focus, short break and long break minutes, and define after how many work cycles the long break is triggered. The default values follow the classic 25/5/15 scheme, but you can adapt them to your rhythm.

Does the timer work without an internet connection?

Yes, the timer runs entirely in your browser: no data is sent to external servers. The audio alert uses the browser's Web Audio API and you can turn it off with one click. Once the page is loaded, the timer keeps working even offline.

Can the durations be changed?

Yes. You set the minutes of focus, the short break and the long break, and how many cycles before the long break comes round. The starting values are the classic twenty-five, five and fifteen.

Does the timer work without a connection?

Yes. Once the page is open the count carries on in the browser and nothing is sent anywhere. The sound alert uses the browser audio and can be switched off with a click.

Why work in intervals?

Because a stated time limit makes it easier to start and cuts the temptation to break off. The pause is there to close the cycle, not to recover: that is why it comes round at regular intervals.
