Bill Split
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about splitting the bill
How does splitting with different shares work?
By enabling "different shares" mode you can assign a weight to each person. For example, with weights 2, 1, 1 the first person will pay double the other two. The total (tip included) is split in proportion to the sum of the weights, so the expense is always covered 100%.
Is the tip calculated before or after the split?
The tip is calculated as a percentage of the total bill and added before the split. This way each person contributes to the tip in proportion to their share, both in even mode and with different shares.
Are my data saved or sent online?
No, all calculations happen directly in your browser and no amount is sent to external servers or stored. The tool is completely free, with no registration and no invasive ads. The displayed currency automatically adapts to the selected language.
How is the tip added to the bill?
The tip is given as a percentage of the amount, with 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 ready to pick. It is added to the total, and the split between people starts from the total with the tip already in.
Can one person pay more than the others?
Yes. Turning on uneven shares gives each person a weight, where 2 means twice as much as someone on 1, and the total is split in proportion to the weights.
Which currency are the amounts shown in?
Amounts follow the language chosen for the site: in English the split bill is shown with the decimal separator and the currency symbol of English formatting.
