Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about the savings and benefits of quitting smoking
How much do you save by quitting smoking?
It depends on how many cigarettes you smoke and the pack price. At 15 cigarettes a day and a pack of 20 at €6, you spend about €4.50 a day, that is more than €1,600 a year. By quitting, that money stays fully in your pocket: use the calculator above with your own numbers for the exact estimate.
How much does smoking cost in a year?
The yearly cost is worked out as: (cigarettes per day ÷ cigarettes per pack) × pack price × 365. For example, a pack a day at €6 is about €2,190 a year; half a pack a day about €1,095. The calculator updates the daily, monthly and yearly cost in real time.
What are the health benefits of quitting smoking?
The benefits come surprisingly fast: within 20 minutes blood pressure and heart rate normalise, in 24 hours carbon monoxide leaves the body, within a month you breathe better and within a year heart risk is halved. In the long run the risk of cancers and respiratory diseases also drops. These are general indications: for your own situation, talk to a doctor.
How do you actually quit smoking?
The most effective strategies combine a method and support: set a date, clear the house of cigarettes and lighters, spot your "trigger" moments and use nicotine replacements (patches, gum) or medicines recommended by a doctor. Apps, groups and helplines greatly raise your chances compared with going it alone on willpower.
Do e-cigarettes save money?
In the long run e-cigarettes often have a lower daily cost than traditional cigarettes, but there is an upfront cost for the device and then recurring spending on liquids and coils. They are not risk-free and contain nicotine, so they should not be seen as "harmless". From a health standpoint, quitting altogether remains the best choice: use the calculator to compare your real costs.
Where can I find help to quit smoking?
Your first point of contact is your GP, who can suggest therapies and medicines. In Italy there are Smoking Cessation Centres (at local health authorities and hospitals) and the National Health Institute's free, anonymous Anti-Smoking Green Line (800 554 088). Pharmacies, dedicated apps and support groups can also give real help.
How long does it take to detox from nicotine?
Nicotine is cleared from the blood within a few days: most of it is gone within 48-72 hours. Withdrawal symptoms (irritability, cravings, trouble concentrating) are strongest in the first week and fall sharply over the following 2-4 weeks. The psychological "craving" can last longer, but becomes increasingly manageable, especially with support.
How much do you save by quitting?
It depends on how much you smoke and the pack price. At 15 cigarettes a day with a pack of 20 at 6 euro, the habit costs about 4.50 euro a day, which is more than 1,600 euro a year that stays in your pocket.
How is the yearly cost worked out?
Cigarettes a day divided by cigarettes per pack, multiplied by the pack price and by 365. A pack a day at 6 euro is about 2,190 euro a year; half a pack a day about 1,095.
What are the health benefits of quitting?
They start sooner than people expect: within twenty minutes blood pressure and heart rate settle, within a day carbon monoxide clears, within a month breathing improves and within a year the heart risk is halved.
Does my data stay private?
Yes, and not because we promise it: this tool runs entirely inside your browser. What you type or upload never leaves your device, so it never reaches a server of ours and there is nothing we could keep, read or lose. You can check it yourself: open the page, disconnect from the internet, and the tool keeps working.
Do you store what I enter?
No. There is no database behind this tool: we do not store your files, your text or your results. When you close the tab nothing is left — not here with us, because it never arrived, and not anywhere else.
Do you profile me? Are you GDPR compliant?
We do not profile you: there is no account to create, we never ask for your email to use a tool, and we keep no profile of what you do. We are an Italian company and we work under the GDPR and the other European rules, with the privacy notice and the consent request in plain sight. One thing we say in full rather than hiding it behind a slogan: the ads on the page are Google's, and Google may use cookies to personalise them. You decide from the consent banner: if you say no the ads stay, but they are not personalised, and the tool works exactly the same.
If it is free, how do you make money?
From the ads on the page, and that is all. We do not sell your data, there is no hidden paid plan, there is no limit that eventually asks for your card, and you do not have to sign up. The ads pay for the servers and for the time we spend writing the tools: that is how we can keep them open to everyone.
